Moja Rwanda Limited Takes Over National Lottery Operations

The Government of Rwanda has officially appointed a new operator for the national lottery, marking a fresh chapter for the sector. Moja Rwanda Limited has secured the mandate following the signing of an agreement with authorities.

This development comes after several months without an active operator. Since October last year, the lottery has been inactive following the termination of Inzozi Lotto’s licence by the regulator.

The decision to revoke the licence was made by the Rwanda Development Board (RDB), acting through the National Lottery and Gambling Commission (NLGC). According to the regulator, the previous operator did not fully comply with contractual terms and regulatory standards.

At the time of the suspension, authorities emphasized that a new operator would be selected through a fair and competitive process. The focus was placed on ensuring transparency, accountability, and safeguarding public interest.

Launched in 2021, Rwanda’s national lottery was designed as a strategic initiative to support the growth of sports in the country. Funds generated from lottery activities are directed to the Ministry of Sports, where they are invested in line with the national Sports Development Policy.

This policy is aimed at developing top-level athletes, including para-athletes, and enhancing Rwanda’s competitiveness both regionally and internationally.
